When the team is happy with where the game is at, they will turn The Culling into a free-to-play title. That should happen sometime later this year.
The Culling 2's failure should warn devs away from battle royale rip-offs
Two days after the game's launch, the peak player count via Steam was a mere 13 players it takes 50 players to fill a full match. At one point, just two people in the world were playing The Culling 2 at the same time. Mind you, the game's highest consecutive player count - which occurred just an hour after the game's release - was only The logo. From afar, it literally looks as if it says The Cuiing.
Optimization is extremely bad for this game. This shows that Xaviant literally rushed this game to add on to point 1. The player characters moved so slowly and shoddily that IGN , of all people , even compared them to "a malfunctioning robot with a broken CPU".

Imprecise shooting for the guns thanks to a broken recoil mechanic, meaning you'd miss a lot even if you could target your enemies. Again, IGN compared the shooting to "shooting an air rifle".

Weapons were so easy to find in the game that it makes exploring very unrewarding. Melee combat was broken and IGN, yet again, compared it to "flailing your arms like a maniac". Framerate drops whenever enemy players approach you. Awkward and unnecessary landing transition animation that caused framerate drops and the player character to face the wrong direction.

The game suffers from the same problem as most crappy open-world games: big maps with very little things to do. Perks to customize your play style. Fifty contestants will drop in and compete for glory, but only one will be crowned the winner.

The Culling is shutting down
The game mechanics, the match pacing, and the online server performance are all tuned to provide the cleanest, rawest, most visceral competition on the planet. It's everything you need and nothing you don't. In , The Culling emerged as the world's first built-from-scratch Battle Royale experience.
Featuring a lush island arena, brutal melee combat, and a long list of perks to help you define your play style, The Culling offered the most intense experience many contestants had ever experienced. The Culling 2 expands on every aspect of its predecessor: The arena is now a massive space, with 20 square kilometers in which to explore, loot, and fight. In addition to the established melee combat system, a wide range of firearms are now on offer, from 9mm pistols to high-caliber sniper rifles.
All ballistics have been carefully tuned to match real-world equivalents, making for tense and tactical firefights. With 50 players, the matches are set to be fast and brutal, while still accommodating players who prefer a more cautious approach. If you think you have what it takes, it's time to suit up and compete in the next season of the original deadly game show: The Culling 2. All rights reserved.
